Not THAT bad....

Being honest here, the movie isn't THAT bad. In fact the movie as a whole, no matter if you are looking for the gore, or looking for a depressing historical / political story, the movie kind of fails to deliver.

The main thing for me is how dated it is. I really hasn't aged very well. I remember watching it many years ago and being shocked and I've came here to see what everyone had to say, but I have been watching it over again off and on today on youtube of all places (someone has the whole movie on there broken up, and with english dubbing) and the style, the editing and the acting is way over rated.

I was emotionally taken out of scenes just by some of the cheesy camera work.

I also watched a short film where director Tun Fei Mou discusses the movie. Let me clear the record. Yes the rats being burned is real. Yes the cat being eaten is real. Yes that was a real (f-ing nasty) child autopsy. Yes that was a real cadaver pooping intestine out of his rectum in the chamber (but he also states in one interview that he used SFX, confusing) Also it should be noted that he talked, with absolutly no shame, how he was constantly calling the police departments looking for bodies (and possibly body parts, it got a little vauge) to use in the movie.

So yeah, for the time when it was made it was great but let's not get carried away. After another viewing it's still pretty great IN CONTEXT but it really just isn't that shocking or depressing.

Just sayin....
