It was called Bigfoot and the Hendersons where I lived in Norway as well.

It's always been called Harry and the Hendersons in the USA/Canada, though.

You're from Norway?! I assumed you were American due to your love of 80s (American) action movies.

What kind of assumption is that? You think all foreigners are too sophisticated to like action movies?
Those movies are quite popular outside the U.S.

I think he was referring to my writing style when I talked about them. I guess I sounded American.

So you see, both Dunn and I were under Oveur, even though I was under Dunn.

He loves 80s American action movies and speaks (types, technically) perfect English. What kind of assumption is it? A decent one, even if it is incorrect.

In many places outside North America including the UK (and Ireland where I'm from) it was called Bigfoot and the Hendersons.
I'm not sure why it was called Harry and the Hendersons to begin with it works much better as Bigfoot because everybody knows what that is and will know what to expect.

It's actual American name is Harry and the Hendersons. It was renamed outside of North America to Bigfoot and the Hendersons. Not sure why, but in my opinion Harry and the Hendersons has a better "ring" to it.

I'm just a guy that likes horror flicks.

It does have a good ring, but with 'Bigfoot and the Hendersons' we just used to shorten it to 'Bigfoot' when I was little, and it was a pretty cool name that stuck especially since I remember the cover art for the VHS rental had the 'Bigfoot' title emphasized and that huge adorable grin of Harry's behind it - they just used to go well with each other:

I grew up calling this movie 'Bigfoot' and I guess it will always sound much better to me.

It may also be due to the fact that since the characters name is "Harry", a common American name, it worked using it within the US but outside the US, "Harry" may not have the same ring to it as Bigfoot, which is international. Just my guess though. Either way works to me.

True. Also calling it 'bigfoot' would make it too generic for movie audiences who'd think it would be a slapstick monster type movie. Calling it 'Harry and..' gives it a bit of depth and indirectness.

I can't think of it as anything but Harry and the Hendersons, but that poster is awesome!

It's a classic poster. The European poster art for films was usually far superior to the American versions, I found. This case being a great example.

It was always named 'Bigfoot and the Hendersons' in the UK.

It's just been re- released in the UK , as a budget title , and it's now called
'Harry and the Hendersons' , over here , it has certainly spoilt the title of the movie for the older generation!

reply

When I was a kid, I saw this at the cinema in the UK and it was called Bigfoot And The Hendersons. Weirdly, when the TV series was shown in the UK, it had changed it's name to Harry.
