This Is VERY Similar To E.T.
In many ways
sharetotally agree !!
i noticed it too watching it this very day, after long years. It is on purpose, as Amblin produced both movies. There are even scenes and sounds that directly refer to E.T.
Also, when the very old car of don ameche character is driving towards mountains, i think i heard some kind of "star wars" sound with the car engine... anyone ?
nobody for the star wars sound ?
shareNo way is this like E.T.!!! ET gave me nightmares and for awhile I had a horrible time eating reese's pieces. Harry brought more emotion to the screen and still at 21 i cried like a baby when i watched it. But then again i might be a bit biased due to my fear of that portly squirt extra terrestrial.
shareI hear you, E.T scared the living daylight out of me, I loved Harry since I was a kid.
Even better, I used to have this VHS of Harry and the Hendersons, but just as the movie ends, the beginning scene of E.T pops on, when I was little I watched Harry and the Hendersons till it ended, then sprinted out of the room and ask my Mom / Dad to turn off the tv :x
No wai Harry is like E.T .
Film Critics Siskel and Ebert had actually said there was a bit of E.T. influence, which if I am correct, is why they gave the movie thumbs down, one of the few times I have disagreed with the reviewers.
Please Turn Me Over ~ Mr. Blue Sky
I grew up loving both ET and this. Of course there are similarities, but nothing overwhelming. Weird creatures introduced into a unfamiliar place and family. You want to see a blatant rip-off of ET watch Mac and Me. Now those naked stumbling things creeped me out more as a kid than Harry or ET.
shareThey are both classics. I think Harry and the Hendersons has just as much heart as ET. Mac and Me was just a cash-in on the ET craze. It was basically a commercial for McDonald's and Coca-Cola.
shareET was Lassie with an alien.
shareI like this movie but there's no doubt it was trying to catch the ET magic like so many movies in the 80's. A least it wasn't a full blown rip off like Mac and Me.
shareA lot of films were influenced by ET in the 80s, but they didn't rip it off. It was more like a homage or a different spin on a similar idea ie a clever retooling. Stuff like this, Short Circuit, D.A.R.Y.L. and Starman - all great movies that gave us something new with a similar theme.
Only that POS Mac and Me was an actual ET rip off.
Death by stereo
Yeah, in fact it's completely original compared to Mac and Me which came out the very next year.
"Like my great grandpappy used to say, when life gives you booty, make bootyade!"-Big E of New Day
Exactly.
He was my C.O. in Nam. CIA listed him as MIA but the V.A. ID'd his M.O. and put out an APB.
Yes, and ET was just Sigmund the Seamonster with an alien.
