I didn´t understand

hi!

I LOVE this movie, the only picturization of engelbert humperdincks opera, which I love(d) too.

It´s funny, in the opening credits, humperdincks first name is written "englebert", but "engLEbert" and "engELbert" sounds identical.

ok, but one thing I never understood: at the end, when the witch prepares hansel to cook in the oven, he says to gretel "gretel, wake up" or something, and then she wakes up (?!) and takes the magic stick to cook the witch. WHY DID SHE WAKE UP FROM THAT NUMBNESS?

reply

She wakes up b/c Hansel calls her name and wakes her up from the spell that the witch cast on her. Hope that helps.

reply

ok, but who said, that calling the name (in this case gretels name) helps?

the witch said "hocus pokus, do my will! Unlock his cage, and then be still!" (cloris leachmans face is resourcefully hideous when she said that line!)
