DVD feedback please!

This is my favourite movietale. I am not able to buy it at the moment as I am travelling, but I am desperate to know what the quality is like.

I am aware that it is in full screen and I am a little disappointed. Also there does not appear to be any trailer as a special feature listed like their was originally. Please someone put my mind at ease and let me know how the sound and transfer is. Still happy to have it on DVD though, my tape is just about worn out.

Of course it was in full screen, as it was shot that way. It was a made for cable movie with no theatrical release, TV movies are always shot to fit the TV screen.

I originally thought this too. However, Sleeping Beauty was filmed at the same time as Hansel and Gretel and the DVD (region 4, Australia) is in widescreen. The region 4 Red Riding Hood is also in widescreen, while the US region 1 is in fullscreen. I cannot understand why MGM chooses to do this, it released Snow White in widescreen so why not the rest? I need to know.

There is a trailer attached as a special feature.

It's not a made-for-tv movie. It was supposed to be released theatrically, but since Rumpelstiltskin (the 1st movie tale) flopped, it was released straight-to-video. The original version is Widescreen.
the DVD review :

In the main menu the options are :
-Play
-Scenes
-Theatrical Trailer
-Subtitles

The sound is English Stereo

There are English, French and Spanish subtitles

The fullscreen picture looks pretty good. Clear and sharp. It's not the best picture quality I've ever seen, but compared to the VHS, it sure is stunning.

Thanks for all the info on the DVD. I have purchased it now and am very happy with the picture and sound quality. I would love to have seen the original widescreen presentation but I am pleased with the package that MGM DVD has put together. Also, as a bonus this DVD is a few minutes longer than my VHS copy, no scenes are missing, they are just extended a little.

Well I bought the France release too, and it's Widescreen. The picture quality isn't "better", it's just as good, but at least i can watch it in its original aspect ratio now.. MGM France released Snow White, Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast & Sleeping Beauty, all presented Widescreen. It's great since all the US releases (excluding Snow White) were presented Fullscreen.
