Why are there 2 versions of music/sound effects?

Both are in English. I grew up with one version having music in the background during certain scenes (like when the father is showing the mother the food he bought and when the parents are in the woods at night, looking for the kids.) The newer version is missing some of that music and sound effects.

Anyone know why?
