What was that weapon?

what was the grenade launcher-type weapon that the US used in the movie?

reply

The M79 40mm grenade launcher. It's the grandfather of the modern M203 40mm that you see today, mounted on M16s and M4s.

reply

You're thinking the XM148, which was the first rifle-mounted grenade launcher used in Nam, replaced by the M203 starting around '69. The M79 is hardly related except in that it fires 40mm(?) grenades.

reply

The M203 was first seen in nam in 1968.

reply

If you are talking about the one that Franz had to show Beletsky how to aim - that is an M79 40MM grenade launcher. It is the same weapon that Roach fires in Apocalypse Now.

reply

I always wanted an M79.

you were born a pig farmer.
you'll always BE a pig farmer.
And now, you will DIE a pig farmer.

reply

also known as the "thumper" & thump gun

reply

or that paul-fisher2-1, I don't think there is an 'official' nickname for the M79

reply

Is this the weapon Arnold uses in Terminator 2, uses it on the assult on Cyberdine Systems but also near the end to shoot the T1000.

reply

Arnie is using an M79 in T2.

reply

And if you notice that funny 'popping' sound as Arnie puts the fresh round and pulls out the empty casing...that is why an M-79 is called the 'blooper'.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

reply

Arnold did use a m79 in t2. Its what blew up the head of the t1000 in the end.X

reply

Probably

reply

In the Australian Army they were called 'Wombat Guns'.

reply

If you really want one, you can buy an M-79 flare launcher with a 37mm barrel.

reply

Yeah, man. He's close.

reply

M79 grenade launcher.

Oddly....these were still (or brought back) in service in the 90s. I carried one in Somalia. Very accurate.
