Great movie but cat lovers beware.

I saw this movie many years ago and remember it as a very good movie and really moving.
I think anyone with a normal heart will enjoy, even if you don't like dogs
I caution those who loved cats more. After watching this movie, you will realise cats are not worth your time or attention as much as dogs.

There is a HW movie of nearly the same title, wonder if it is a remake and is it as good as this ?

Ha ha ha you are soooo right, I have a cat who I Iove so much but after watching Hachiko, I do wander if I should have gotten a dog instead of a cat.

There are about 8 dogs or so that waited for their master long after their death, but never heard it from a cat- guess they just need food and a warm shelter :-(

They are animals of different nature.

Cats are from the tiger family. They are more selfish and don't care for their masters or anybody. That's why people of certain religion(who are similar in character, I don't mean to offense but it's facts) loved cats and hated dogs.

If you observe a cat's behaviour, it only come close to you when it needs something and seldom remembers what you did for them. Dogs are different. They remember you for your kindness.

my kitty loves to curl up on my lap and i love her. i think you are just a cat hater.

I've owned both dogs and cats, and I'd be hard-pressed to say which I prefer. I will say all of our cats, while each affectionate to us, have been absolutely devoted to our autistic son. Our current cat lays on his backpack each morning before school, follows us to the door when we leave in the morning, and greets him when he comes home in the afternoon.

I miss "Lost". Is it still on?

I beg to differ on this topic. Cats and dogs alike know their masters equally if you show them love. I had a cat who loved me so much that she would be bring me food for me to eat and would be near my side whenever i was sick. Sadly she is no more. Bottomline is animals are anytime better friends than humans. They care.

What religion? Are you talking about ancient Egyptians?

If (s)he was referring to ancient Egyptians, (s)he should be aware that dogs were LOVED by them. I didn't understand their confusing remarks, either. At any rate, those who say that both dogs and cats can be extremely devoted, loving, caring companions have it right, of course. It'll all depend on the individual animal. In general dogs are known for their unconditional loyalty and cats for refusing to be slavish and almost looking down on people. But there are 'catlike' dogs and 'doglike' cats, and no hard and fast rules dictate how an animal will act. They are different species, and no doubt influenced by their wild ancestors' social structures and survival techniques. But to say that cats are less worthy of our time and attention...? I'm a dog person myself, but I adore cats as well (all animals, actually), and I wouldn't say such a thing. Even though a movie like this really, really, truly drives home the heartbreakingly strong faithfulness of dogs and makes you want to hug yours for hours...

Dogs give you love and attention even if you don't deserve it; they serve/submit, that's the difference. To get a cat to love you, you need years of devotion, and most people with cats seem to fail in that regard.

Cats are the perfect test on whether one can handle fellow humans in all their complicated ways.

True love is understanding someone, not merely enjoying them. I wish more people understood the difference.

I think one of the reasosn why i chose to have cats is because dogs seem to be so much needier. I like an animal that is more independent and gives room to breathe. That being said, this film is all the proof you need to know why most people love dogs.

I disagree, it's dependent on the amount of time, affection & love you spend on an animal which forms the bond. My black Burmese kitty Sneakers waits for me by the door, bitches me out if I come home late, sleeps beside me every night on the bed, cuddles next to me or my wife on the couch, & loves to be held & petted. I had a pet rat who was very lovable & wanted to be near me all the time as well. Animals respond to affection & attention with patterns of behavior that show their intellect has been challenged & changed in subtle & specific ways. I've always said that the intellect of man, & all animals is due to a mother's love of their children in expanding their intelligence through challenging tasks which shapes their thinking in new & different ways.
