Why has it been released on dvd as CENTRAL PARK DRIFTER?

I bought the Shriek Show dvd under the title of CENTRAL PARK DRIFTER. But when I watched it last night when the movie started it still had the original title of GRAVEYARD SHIFT. Does anyone know why they are selling it under a different name but it still has the original title on the credits?

I haven't seen the sequel but would like to. I wonder if Shriek Show will release it on dvd?

I think CENTRAL PARK DRIFTER is the American version, and that's probably the one Shriek used. Maybe I'm wrong, but I always assumed that title was to avoid confusion with Stephen King's GRAVEYARD SHIFT.

It was known as GRAVEYARD SHIFT in the US. That was the title I rented it under back when I was a kid on VHS.

Could've been an earlier release before the Stephen King film. Or is it possible you obtained a Canadian VHS? Or maybe only the DVD title was changed.

Only the DVD title was changed. ---- In the US, it was released by Virgin Vision under the title Graveyard Shift. After Virgin Vision went out of business, Anchor Bay (aka: Video Treasures) released it under the title Graveyard Shift as well.

A sequel was also produced that was released in 1989. It was released by both Virgin Vision & Anchor Bay under the title THE UNDERSTUDY: GRAVEYARD SHIFT II. I actually own the VHS for GYII.

I rented Graveyard Shift back when I was in 2nd grade. That would probably make me 8 at the time and put the year around 1989. So, at least a year before the Stephen King version.

PS: I've owned part 1 & 2 (back in the VHS days) from both Anchor Bay & Virgin Vision. So, I definitely know w/o a doubt it was released under the title Graveyard Shift.
