Are you trying to compare "M*A*S*H" with "Good Morning Vietnam" in an effort to say that Levinson's film was a ripoff of Altman's?

i do not see it as a mash rip off, i just think the style of filming and manner of the shoot is very altman... from the parade music as they get off the plane to the documentary style of fliming, it just seems like he was taking a lot of the altman style and brining it to this movie.

Don't see it all. Cinematography was completely different. The only thing the two have in common is war.

I dont see much similarity between this and MASH, excepting the common themes of war and comedy. For one thing, MASH was an ensemble-based picture, wherein this movie was basically Robin's show. Secondly, the dramatic subplot about the random acts of terrorism was not the kind of thing Altman included in his movies - including MASH. Virtually no Koreans were featured in MASH, wherein many of the supporting roles in "Vietnam" were the locals.

Always thought of Altman as an ensemble director. He does a lot of the Irish-American family dinner thing where everyone in the shot talks at once. His strength is in taking many actors & allowing them all to shine.

Good Morning Vietnam had a very singular star that the supporting cast orbited. Totally different style of film making.
