The Unicorn

Is the Unicorn supposed to represent William's sister who was given a labotomy. I was reading William's biography and it spoke of his sister, that was in 7th grade, now in 12th grade we watched this version of "The Glass Menagerie" and I noticed how Laura spoke of the unicorn

"I'll just pretend it was given an operation to make it seem less freakish"

was this intentionally a nod towards William's sister or just a coincidence?

the whole play is about Rose. Rose is why the play exists. Do some more research.

I'm no Williams scholar, so I won't comment about Rose. In the context of the play itself, the unicorn losing its horn seems to be me to be a hopeful omen for Laura, as she realizes that the loss of the horn would make the unicorn more like the other horses, and less likely to be labeled as different from others (Laura obviously thought of herself as different from her classmates at school, and not is a positive way).

I don't know if that was a nod to Williams' sister Rose, or not. Of course, Williams dealt with lobotomy more specifically in SUDDENLY, LAST SUMMER.

I agree with the analysis of the broken unicorn. That is what I tell my high school English classes.
