Finally out on DVD..

Thank you Walmart...

Yeah...but don't expect any cast interviews or a 5.1 surround option. Even though it says there are on the box, there aren't any. Denied! :(

Are you kidding me????? That was one of the reason's I wanted that DVD, for the cast interview!!!

reply

Once again, Lion's Gate puts out a shoddy release. I'd come to hope for more after their phenomenal "Monster Squad" DVD, but the quality of that release seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

The box cites cast interviews. None. No 5.1 sound. The picture quality is unquestionably better than previous releases and it's in all its widescreen splendor... however, it seems like a '90s transfer. The picture's not as clear as it should be, there's light scratches visible throughout, the color's oversaturated and the contrast is off. Crap, I said I'd never let myself get spoiled by Hi-Def -- but this is a movie that would look incredible if given the proper treatment.

Agreed. A Blu-ray release of The Gate would be all kinds of awesome.

I got this on DVD in damn 2004 what is this damn kid talking about?

reply

I believe he's talking about the die-hard Gate fan's "love to hate it" Monstrous Special Edition version that was released in 2009, woozle. Woeful photo shopped cover with a random kid on the front. It's clearly not Stephen Dorff. Lol. Great 16:9 widescreen transfer and reasonable extras however...and the interviews with Randy Cook and Craig Reardon are fantastic. Only complaint...the cast interviews that are listed on the back of the box aren't on the disc. Still, it's far superior to any previous release. *** out of ***** from me.
