This movie is one of my all time favorite horror flicks, know any movies that are similar to this?

Cameron's Closet
Child's Play
Gate 2: Tresspassers (aka Return to the Nightmare)

Those three spring to mind.

Fear of the Dark (2002) is another good one that has kids as it's main characters.

There's a fine line between good and Iowa.

Are you serious? The majority of the movies you listed there are absolutely nothing like The Gate.

This movie reminds me of Amityville III, which has a well in the basement emitting all sorts of nasty things.

none of the movies listed here remind me of this movie.

the ones that put into this genre are:

phantasm,
evil dead I
evil dead II

Nothing But Trouble= meh, not terribly similar. no kids, but fun and full of comedy and suspense.

The Monster Squad= very similar in my opinion, involves kids battling classic monsters. also available on dvd regularly at wal mart or best buy. also try fye.

Stephen Kings IT= very similar as well, involves kids battling a demon. available anywhere.

Black Roses= not terribly similar, but 1980s cheese horror involving a rock band who happens to be demons that kids warship. (only available on vhs, nearly impossible. hard to find. try ebay)

Ghost Town 1988= not terribly similar either, but 80s cheese horror. very cool as well. done now could be great, but still appreciated. (also hard to find vhs, try ebay)

also try:
1.Trick or treat. NOT the new garbage, but the 80s movie with gene simmons and ozzy.
2. The Goonies
3. Gremlins
4. 976-EVIL
5. 976-EVIL 2, which in my opinion is better than the first.
6. Nightbreed

There's a new Joe Dante film coming out soon called "The Hole". If you want to talk similarities there's your motherlode.

I actually liked The Hole(2010 version). Not as memorable as The Gate, but it's decent enough for a PG horror flick.

Similar movies? Pulse(the flick from the 80s starring one of the Lawrence brother) had a similar vibe. Terrible film but it shared a lot of elements from The Gate(child protagonist who's left alone in the house/divorced parents theme also shows up here)

Clownhouse is another one. Again, child protagonists left by themselves to fend off a group of psychotic clowns.

There are some other films this one reminded me of that share this dream like quality, all of which came out at around the same time:

Paperhouse
Dream Demon
Parents
Night of the Demons

For newer ones, maybe "Deathgasm" or "Beyond the Gates" (excluding the obvious "Stranger Things")

The Pit (1981) definitely comes to mind.
