Gonna have to find the DVD. I *love* this film.

I'm surprised at all of the good reviews for the dog. I wanted to have "Never see another Judd Nelson film EVER" tattooed on the back of my hand after seeing it (during it's theatrical release). Overwrought acting and obvious jokes and the intense annoyance of Nelson's "acting". A hammer blow to the head would be preferable.

reply

I don't watch this movie for Judd Nelson. I watch this movie for John Hurt's performance as Dr. Benoit. Ooooohh, very nice.

reply

You are right. Sadly I did not read a User Comment that the Hurt sub-plot is primarily in the second half. Could have saved 42-1/2 minutes. E. Perkins is underused (sign of the times?) and Judd Nelson can't act.

Still it was bearable as courtroom comedies go, even though most of the histronics would never survive a Judge's rath.

score 3.5 overall plus one point for spoofing overwrought but more serious trial scenes => 4.5

In total agreement! John Hurt was the best thing about this movie! Damn funny and just loved his voice.

I saw this movie when it was in the theaters. It is a favorite of my families. My dad and I will occasionally look at each other and say, "Who the hell is Susie Walker?"

I have seen and loved this movie for years... I thought it was hysterical and chilling when I first watched it. I think it's a horribly Underrated and poorly marketed excellent film.

I was sad to see Jud Nelson's career fail after such a great performance and Elizabeth Perkins is just cute as hell in this.

Benoit... if I remember his name correctly... is the same dude in Contact who plays the beneficiary to Jody Foster... and more recently the bad ruler guy in V for Vendetta... this was the first movie I ever saw him in and I would also hate to give anything away so.....

It's great.

I caught this film one late night , years ago, shown on ITV in the UK and really liked it. Then stumbled across an old ex-rental vhs copy and have it proudly in my collection until R2 dvd comes out. It is well worth the time and effort to dig it out and watch it, even if a little dated now.

reply

It's just awful. They should burn the master and every copy of it for the good of humanity.

Gosh, it's nice to know others feel that way about this movie. I've been trying for years to get others to see this. The duck feet and classical music is hysterical; so's the way he wakes her up. But, no, the courtroom drama is amazing.

Finally saw this movie for the first time on SHOWTIME a couple of weekends ago. I liked it...strong performance from Judd Nelson.

Saw this movie on home video, way back in 1987!

Rented this way back when there were video stores. I loved it. It really held my interest all the way through.

I've seen it several times. Always think of it as two movies in one 1) First half = pure slapstick. 2) Second half = Dramedy.
