I can't BELIEVE this!!!

Where the hell are all the posts? The boards for movies like Ghostrider are very active, while this one is dead. I am not trying to insult fans of that movie but, the quality of this amazing work far surpasses Ghostrider.
It makes me sad.

I can't believe you did it, I loved you!...'Course, I was coming up here to kill ya.

hmmmm, I myself was expecting to find lots more posts relating to these films....

I have to say that these movies literally blew my mind when I first saw them (and still do).

I look forward to buying the new dvd set that's coming out!

there is probably so few posts because only a small percentage of the populace has never even heard of the brothers quay and of the few that have even less of a percentage actualy understands the metaphors and imagry of thier work. i just recieved my copy of the new dvd and i have attempted to show it to a number of people. the standard recation was confusion and the films acctualy seemed to put people in a very morose mood. the best reaction i got was a request that i let a friend borrow it so he could watch it while stonned. most people have gotten so used to the cut and dry methods of modern film that when presented with an unusual narative and unconventional themes they tend to go into a fight or flight response.

and the new dvd is amazing. my only complaint is that the brothers only did comentary on a few of the shorts. what comentary they did record, however, was very interesting.

I agree...the new DVD release of their short films is absolutely wonderful. Even the packaging is beautifully and thoughtfully put together.

I also had the same trouble in trying to share their works with people, sadly. As a second year Design Major, I have a huge appreciation for such meticulously constructed and beautifully filmed images as the Quay brothers create, and the stunning, bizarre worlds of their films; the aesthetic is a huge influence on my own work.

I suppose much like the device pictured in Street of Crocodiles, or like looking through any lens, the experience is something of a solitary and personal one.

Do too check out, if you have yet not: Guy Maddin and Peter Tscherkassky. They too are actual creators of cinema.

I remember when I first watched the brothers quay films, I was obsessed for weeks because I'd never found anything like them, and they opened my eyes to the constellations of filmmakers such as David Lynch, Bunuel, Godard and Peter Greenaway, people who do things very differently to conventional filmmakers, and of course to writers like Kafka and Robert Walser and Bruno Schultz, who are amazing.
Of course there is a big cult audience for the quays - made up mostly of artists/art students - and their first response isnt always going to be to rave about them on imdb.
I agree though, its always a bit sad when you're caught up in the world of the Quays and you want to share their work with everyone, but when you do people just don't seem to understand it.

Try this: http://snipurl.com/ozquay

Expensive, but I suppose it cost a lot to make the images upside-down. :)
