Was anyone on HER (Alex's) side?

He was an asshole. His wife goes out of town so he runs and cheats and then ghosts the woman when she obviously has feelings for him? WTF?

Sister I see you

Sister I miss you

I didn't feel sympathetic towards any of them. Dan made it clear to Alex he only wanted one thing while his wife was away, but he still cheated on his wife. Alex on the other hand was clearly not all there falling madly in love with Dan over a weekend and expecting him to be happy about her being pregnant.

I agree with you concerning Alex's prior history, pondered that as well. Surely her mental state didn't just suddenly manifest itself and erupt with that particular relationship but evolved over time; she had to have had some sort of track record, albeit cunningly concealed.

Cape Fear was a successful remake, imo and seems to fit in this genre.

I just want someone to say to me, oh
I'll always be there when you wake, yeah

Including Robert Mitchum, cleverly inserted.

It's hard to feel sympathy for a villain who plays the hero. Even though Dan was a large douchebag for deciding to have the affair, it's really hard to feel sympathy for Alex when she leads him on. She bears as much responsibility for the affair because she was tempting and playing him, asking about his family and talking about being discrete, when she clearly wasn't. Alex is no different from Meredith Johnson in Disclosure, who tempted Douglas and set up the meeting for the purpose of sleeping with him, although Meredith's intentions in Disclosure are a completely different story. You could say Alex set him up to have the affair, much like Meredith set him up in Disclosure for the purpose of falsely accusing him of sexual harassment.

I would have divorced dan if I were Beth. He clearly can’t be trusted and the first weekend she is away he jumps into bed with somebody and gets her pregnant. Oh my god!!!

Boo hoo hoo, poor Alex! She should be able to seduce and fuck and fall in love with as many married men as she wants! #SMASHTHEPATRIARCY
