the vhs tapes were the best aspect of the movie


I thought the VHS clips shown throughout was what really made the movie for me. There was a sickeningly nostalgic aura that radiated from the film when they were shown. Egoyan's movies seem very concentrated on what has happened in the past and I thought this was a refreshing way for him to target that idiosyncratic theme. Anyone else agree? No? Oh, okay,

yeah. i agree. it's a great use of the different visual textures, almost masterful already, a real indication of a brilliant filmmaker coming into his own
