Pawn your Evil Spawn

Back when Evil Spawn was released on VHS to video rental store, it apparently had such a bad, unpopular ending that the distributor made a 2nd ending. They advertised in things like Fangoria or Starlog that rental stores could Pawn Your Evil Spawn. You could send in your tape and trade it in for a new tape with the new ending.


Am I just making this up? I seem to recall it actually happened. If it did, what were the 2 endings?


It's been like 27 or 28 years since I saw the tape I rented but my memory of the ending is something like this. The police investigator is typing his investigation wrap up on a typewriter when an alien bug bursts forth from his chest. What was the other ending?
