People STILL think this is a remake?

Right, let's call our remake Evil Dead 2. With that logic, why not call the 2013 film Evil Dead 4?

reply

I can see people being confused because Ash seemingly hasn't learned his lesson after the first movie.

reply

It's probably because they have so many similarities and that they had to use different actresses and actors in the beginning recap due to some studio rights issue. I think in the beginning if they showed flashbacks to ED1 then it would have been less confusing to most people.

reply

I agree. They tried using flashbacks of footage from ED1, but they couldn't acquire the rights to them and decided to shoot new footage for ED2.

reply

It is partially a remake since they had to reshoot the ED1 scenes.

It's a sequel/remake. I feel El Mariachi/Desperado also qualifies for this distinction.

reply

And the new footage changed a lot of things. It's only Ash and his girlfriend going to the cabin this time, and the Book of the Dead isn't burned either.

It's not surprising that people didn't realize the beginning of Evil Dead 2 was meant as recap of the original. I have to admit I was confused a little as well.

It is a comedy so it's a totally different thing.

reply

Cause it is kinda a remake... almost identical story, same characters, same weapon, same setting, same props, same everything just slightly different.

The first tried to be a straight horror and was horendeous.

Sami Raimi's silly horror comedy however as well as style was genius. It elevated a truly boring, mediocre and plain 4/10 horror to a 9/10

reply

ok, lets call it a reboot.

I watched Ash Vs The Evil Dead before ever going back to watch the films. Honestly, once you accept the absurdity of the universe, who cares? "Canon" is intentionally meaningless. It's like expecting continuity in South Park or the Naked Gun movies. Just enjoy the ride. They clearly did when making them.

reply

It is all because of the first 5 mins. because the movie 'pretended' the other 3 characters from the first movie was not there and that only Ash and Linda went to the Cabin. that is why people think it is a remake. where is we all know the legal reasons they had to shoot that 5 mins. I think it was not needed and they should have just cut to as soon as Ash gets poseesed at part 1
