Overrated?

Am I the only one who thinks this film was disappointing and overrated? I mean, I don't dislike it, but I don't understand why some praise it as "one of the greatest horror films of all time". Or, that this is better than the original, which I absolutely love. I just didn't feel much with this one. I'm curious from those who are major fans of ED2, what makes it so fantastic to you?

Overrated? Yes.
Disappointing? No.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.
Sony 16:9

It's predecessor was definitely better. Deserves more credit than this one. Even army of darkness is better in my opinion.

Evil Dead 1 is really, really boring.

Are you sure you're not just saying its better because it was first?

Evil Dead 2 is hilarious, number 1 is trying to be scary but the effects are too bad to make it work, and army of darkness is fantastic except for the last 10-15 minutes which really get bogged down.

This one though, just works.

I don't think it is overrated at all. It has the perfect blend of horror and humor. I can see why some who prefer straight horror prefer the first film though, as it was definitely the most creepy of them.

reply

I agree with you. First one, yea. Second one, eh.

reply

First one eh, second one GROOVY!

reply

Never liked it at all.

Plus its just a rehash of the 1st.

They were a lot better filmmakers by the time they got to Evil Dead.

It is hands down the best film in its genre. Its a horror comedy, but the comedy aspect of it though intentional isn't direct like in say Scary Movies.

I saw this yesturday on freezone on on demand, I do not understand the hype of this movie. It was so cheesy and stupid with horrible acting. I know ill get hate for this but I liked Evil Dead 2013 much better than this...

reply

It's supposed to be cheesy, Bruce Campbell's acting is not "horrible". Everyone else's is hit and miss.

And speaking of cheesy acting, Evil Dead 2013.. are you kidding me!? THAT WAS the cheesiest terrible horrible acting i have seen in years (accept the main lead). All characters other than the man girl were trying so hard to act, and it was obvious... they were terrible.

yeah, it's suppose to be cheesy, it was on purpose. the cheesiness meant to be funny.

A movie is not cheesy if it does not take itself too seriously and intends to use cheesy one liners for comedy. Think of Anchorman, this movie is like Anchorman of horror flicks.

OMG don't bring up Anchorman as a comparision with this pile of *beep* The comedy of Anchorman isn't even a distant cousin to the "comedy"?! in Evil Dead II.

reply

This isn't supposed to be a horror like the new evil dead.

Its slapstick.

Its meant to be funny.

Its one of my fav movies of all time, it literally makes me happy just thinking about it.

Its not "hyped" it just has a lot of fans.
