Better than Schindler's List.

Yeah, I said it. Granted, I gave both films 10's but I still consider Escape from Sobibor to be above Schindler's List. EFS gave me more scenes that have stayed with me. I felt that SL, as great as it is, tried too much to be a movie instead of going all out with the emotions of the story as EFS did. For instance, the fact that it is in black & white took away from the story for me. As much as people will make excuses for Spielberg's decision, chalking it up to artistic direction or symbolism, as a moviegoer, I want the entire experience of the story. Just because something took place before the colorization of film doesn't require that it be portrayed in the same way. That's why I liked EFS so much. It doesn't fiddle about with self-indulgence and goes straight to the heart, which is the only way a story of such magnitude should be told. Like I said, both are still near perfection, I just prefer Escape more.

Yeah, I agree. I think this movie had raw gritty telling vs a little stylized Schindlers List. Also, they didn't focus on any one person here.

But both movies are terrific. I rated both movies a 9.5/10

I think Schindlers list was better but this was pretty good.

Schindlers list had me in tears at the end yet this film was brilliant through out......I guess it is better then schindlers list !

The best films are made in an intelligent format.

I enjoyed both films...

...but I'm giving my *better* vote to "Sobibor".

I would give this movie a 9.5, Schindler's List may be 7.6

A sad movie but funny at times.
There is that scene when an elderly jewish man is excited saying ' I can't believe it, we are killing Nazis'

Then when a Nazi officer points a pistol at a jew and pulls the trigger and the gun fails, then points it away to test it and it fires a bullet, then back to the man and it fails; so angry, he 'kicks' the man who survives for at lease a day.

For some reason, perhaps because it was from Spielberg, there seems to be a wish for Schindler to be the definitive holocaust movie, but in truth, it brought absolutely nothing new to the table that hadn't already been portrayed in Sobibor, Sophie's Choice, Playing For Time, etc.

The truly bizarre one was the miniseries Holocaust, which I've always heard about and watched online and it was like a Love Boat story. I can't believe that one got so much acclaim.
