Just a funny movie

nothing really fancy about this whole movie although Levon has about the best line when he talks about his wife making those fish sticks "she does them up real nice, real nice and brown."

Yeah, I cracked up at that part-- "She sure knows how to make them salmon patties!" when all she does is buy them frozen and pan fry them. I also loved seeing Mary Steenburgen playing a hillbilly yelling "Shuuuuuuuuuuut uuuuuuuuuuuuuup!" out the window at her husband's pack of hounds.

This movie is lame in a lot of ways, including plot holes you could drive a train through, but the cast saves it from being a total waste. I couldn't think of any two better guys to play these hillbillies than Levon and Wilford. For all I know, they probably couldn't play anything else, but they're perfect for this movie. I only watched it to begin with because there was nothing else on cable, and I like trains.

Oh yes-- and I had to try some frozen salmon patties. They're not bad, just get the kind that are breaded.

"Makes 'em taste just like fish!"

"How fast is that thing?"
"Depends on who's around."

I highly doubt she bought them frozen. I've made salmon patties many times, they freeze well. And she cooked them the correct way, in a cast iron skillet, "makes 'em taste just like fish". Better shuffle them cards, Leo, don't want to get grease ever'where.

JSYK, Mary Steenburgen is from North Little Rock, Arkansas. I'm not saying she's a hillbilly. I'm just saying she probably grew up around plenty of them.

Yeah, the movie had some chuckles. Toward the end it got kind of slapstick-ish and changed the whole tone of the film. There had been a real opportunity to explore some real issues surrounding sudden unemployment and just how damaging it can be to long range plans and to the emotional well being of those workers.
