Any chance of a DVD?

I have been waiting for a long time for a DVD of Dudes. I think its a slim chance but has anyone heard of any rumours?

Cheers

reply

I wanna DVD too!!!

Hiding out is out on dvd

My Name is Alex Morais, And i'm a DVD-aholic.

reply

Yeah, the timing is about right. A dvd release now seems appropriate. I'd welcome it (but of course, I'm a big ol' nerd).

My guess is that if anyone's working on it at all, there's the usual holdups w/ the music licensing...

Can anyone confirm or deny?

reply

I doubt the Vandals would be hard to get a hold of... I bet its just a matter of time... And e-mails...

maybe theyre waiting for the rights to the music.... could always do what mtv did with the beavis and butthead dvd releases.... remove all the music that was there, and replace it with some crappy music

reply

I'd be surprised if there were any rights issues, 'cause they released the souldtrack for the movie. I found it in a second hand rack a few years ago.

reply

WHAT? I spent years looking for the Dudes soundtrack, and was always told that they never made one.
What's on the tracklist?
I've only been able to find one album by The Little Kings, and it doesn't include Lost Highway or Dead Dog Man.
I've got a copy of Peace Through Vandalism by The Vandals, but the album version of Urban Struggle sucks compared to their live version in the movie.

Normal is what people are until you get to know them

reply

Ok, this is the full track listing.
1. Rock 'N' Roll Outlaw - Keel
2. Urban Struggle - The Vandals
3. Show No Mercy - W.A.S.P.
4. Vengeance Is Mine - Simon Steele & The Claw
5. These Boots Are Made For Walking - Megadeth
6. Time Forgot You - Legal Weapon
7. Jesus Came Driving Along - The Leather Nun
8. Mountain Song - Jane's Addiction
9. Lost Highway - The Little Kings
10. Dudes Showdown - Charles Bernstein & Co.
11. Amazing Grace - Steve Vai

Normal is relative.....

I had the soundtrack CD years ago. It got nicked when my house got broken into back in 2003 :O(

IIRC the Megadeth version of 'These boots' was totally different (and better) than the album version.

Also, The Vandals \m/ w00t!!

reply

Thank you. I did see this soundtrack yesterday before I posted my message. The thing is that none of these songs is the one that appears at the cafeteria scene. It does sound a lot like Taime Downe's (Faster pussycat) voice, but BATHROOM WALL isnt that song.

Oh well, I guess I will have to wait to get a hold of this movie again on cable. My country definetely doesnt carry much of these CULT CLASSICS.

Thanks anyway.

Man... will the EVER release this on DVD?!?!
I'm DYING to see this again.

Have you found out the song, after all this time? Perhaps this might help??? Hey! I think is has to be Dirty Pool by The Little Kings, because the second song in that diner fight scene you're asking about ends with the line: "Eight ball". And it is... merry xmas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZbaTZPa27s

Dudes soundtrack listing from the credits:

Lost Highway - The Little Kings
Guitarget - Four Big Guitars From Texas [written by Ray Benson]
Yard Dog - The Tail Gators
Mountain Song - Jane's Addiction

Show No Mercy - W.A.S.P.
Vengeance Is Mine - Simon Steele & The Claw

A Dudes soundtrack is available but difficult to find. I found it on e-bay and have seen it listed on Amazon. Good luck!

reply

The soundtrack has been out since 1987. Mostly on LP, but you can occasionally find a copy on ebay or some online CD & record dealers.

reply

I have the soundtrack on CD I got it back at best buy in the early 90s to replace the record/tape i had of it sence the movie was new

reply

doesnt really matter if there was a soundtrack released or not as far as a dvd release goes. different rights were secured back when the film came out that may have included release for vhs but did not include anything like a dvd since they didnt exist back then.

youll find that is why most of the original criterion laserdiscs arent on dvd, they secured laserdisc rights but that didnt extend to dvd rights.

breakfast club and rock n rule are both prime examples of movies that were eventually released onto dvd, but only after a long time of haggling over getting rights to the music in the films, because they didnt want to release them with different music (like mtv did with the beavis and butthead dvds, or like kodocha was done when the band that did the opening title refused to give rights)

personally, i would rather hold out for a complete version with all the music opn it rather than settle for a lame version where the soundtrack has been either muted or replaced by something else.

modern films (i.e., those that are released since the invention of dvd and hd and bluray) dont suffer the same setbacks since those rights for a digital format release are generally secured at the time the movie is being picked up by a studio.

another possibility though, is that the studio that has the rights to this movie just doesnt think there would be enough interest in it to warrant a release. hell, willard and ben are both in way higher demand for a dvd release than dudes, and theyre not even close to ever being released.

i suppose everyone could begin annoying the hell out of the rights holders for a release until they finally give in.... it worked with lucas and the original trillogy finally getting its due.

dudes, i gotta see this!!!

I recently bought a VCR/DVD Recorder, so I'm currently copying lots of my old VHS tapes to DVD, and when I saw that I couldn't buy this movie on DVD yet, I decided to copy it. My VHS pre-record isn't the best copy around (it's an EP edition from the early 90s), but at least I know it's not going to look any worse than it already does.

i have two prerecorded copys of this movie also got soundtrack on CD its in pile of Vids i need to copy to DVD like the loveless & Dogs in space....

reply

This is another classic B-movie that needs some DVD treatment... It took me a few years to find the soundtrack on CD at a reasonable price; now all I need is the movie.

I havent seen this movie completely. But there is a part where Jon Cryer stares at this beautiful girl in a cafeteria or diner. I need to know what song is playing at that moment. I know faster Pussycat has a song there and I downloaded it, but it is not the same one for that particlar part.

Please help me.

Same here
Hmm, maybe I'll try to secure rights to a remake...then they'll go "sh#t, we need to re-release the original on DVD to capitalize on this" then I'll ditch the remake ;-)

do a search on google there are alot of people who take the vhs version clean it up and tranfer it on dvd its independant but atleast its on dvd thats how I found the night of the creeps and the werewolf tv series!!
