Debbie, I've been there after seeing postcards and a mug while on hols. It is called Duntrune castle by Crinan Loch in Argyll. It's reputed to be the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland. It dates from the late 12th century and until modern times was held by the Clan Campbell. As far as I know you can take pics from the outside by the statues, but not visit the insides. Glad to be of help, it took me many hols up there to find it and was just a happy accident. The sooner that films available on dvd, the happier still I'd be.

Sarah, a much belated thankyou for finding the castle that i've been intrigued by for so long, certainly worth a visit. Hard to believe that this film was made twenty years ago and i've always wondered were the castle was, and now I know thanks to you. If I hear of it coming out on dvd I will certainly let you know.
Many thanks again Debbie

Duntrune Castle is located near Kilmartin and belongs to
Robin Malcolm of Portalloch (one of the nicest people you could meet) and his family. He is the head of Clan Malcolm/MacCallum. They do have cottages on the grounds that they rent during the summer. You can check out the website by doing a Google search for Duntrune Castle.
