Dragnet 2017: Do you think that would work?

Lets say they got the idea to make a new Dragnet movie, but where its Tom Hanks who has become a whole lot more serious, just like Joe Friday was in the 1987 movie and was then partnered up with a more witty cop like
Andy Samberg's Jake Peralta from Brooklyn 99.
Do you think such a 90-120 minute movie would work?

I'd love to see a sequel, however I am a little concerned that its picking the right scriptwriter and director will be challenging to give it the light-heart feeling the first one had. Paul Fieg? Maybe, maybe not if Ghostbusters is anything to go by?

Yes for sure i would think so Dan Aykroyd wouldn't be interested in starring in a Sequel but Tom Hanks might be up for it he wouldn't be a cop anymore but he would be captain instead maybe Joe Friday's absents should be mentioned two new cops would replace Joe Friday and Pep Streebak a there should funeral scene of the late Captain Gannon.
