You'd think either the director, the script supervisor, either of the lead actors, or even the screenwriter would have noticed the change in the amount.

shareI think what that line was supposed to mean was that Pep was paying an informant for info but he would only give it to him in bits and pieces. Eventually for them to get all the info they needed they had to keep paying the informant for more and more info.
