The main reason DOLLS works as a horror film, despite its ridiculous premise, is because of the handling of the material by the underrated, always interesting director Stuart Gordon.
If you guys like DOLLS, you really ought to rent/buy everything else by Gordon. Even his lamest films are far better in comparison than most straight-to-video fare.
His best works, if you don't know or aren't familiar, include RE-ANIMATOR, THE BEYOND, KING OF THE ANTS and DAGON.
'The Beyond' is a Fulci film - one of the greatest horror films ever, possibly my favourite, though it could be tied, funnily enough, with 'From Beyond' - Stuart Gordon's film.
shareP.S. I like 'From Beyond' so much it's the only film I've reviewed twice(!) here on IMDB (I just checked and they deleted my 1st review - dang). I must have been about 13 when I first saw it, and it creeped the sh^t out of me every time that 'resonator' is turned on. It gives you an extreme feeling of; Something bad is going to happen!
