This movie gave me issues!

I saw this movie when I was 6 years old in 1988, and for the next I'd say, oh, 7 years or so I had serious issues! I couldn't sleep at night because I was scared my dolls would come down out of my closet and attack me in my sleep. I thought that when I would get out of bed there would be a doll with a saw just waiting to take of my leg! My mom would have to come and fall asleep with me all the time for many years! I seriously lived in fear of being alone in my room, day or night, and having to open my closet door, look under my bed, fall asleep, etc. because I was so scared of my dolls.

I am 23 years old now but still kinda scared to watch it again! But maybe it would help me deal with my past issues. Anyway, moral of the story, don't watch this or show it to anyone if you ever want to be able to enjoy your dolls again!! :)

i know what u mean, dolls still freak me out i feel they are watchin me when i move around, all thanks to this film, and maybe a few others

reply

Heh, don't worry about it, you're not the only one with issues with this movie. I love scary movies, I've seen many of them and can watch one scary movie after another without flinching or being scared... except if you put this movie on. I'll hide my face during lots of scenes and this is the only movie I refuse to watch. It pretty much stems from my fear of dolls; punch dolls, china dolls, clown dolls etc. Even the damn movie cover creeps the bejesus out of me.

So no worries, you're not alone in this :) If you have issues with this movie, then so do I.

reply

Yeah, this movie really creeped me out...anything with dolls/toys coming to life does it to me. Also, the movie "Tourist Trap" with the mannequins coming to life really scares me. So like the other posters said, you're not alone in this. Oh yeah, clowns are really scary too...let's not forget them...

reply

Hell yea clowns are scarey....CAWOODEN!!!...You better not ever see Killer Klowns from Outer Space!

I saw this movie a long time after it came out.And after seeing it i was afraid of my room because i had 3 porcelain dolls in there on my dresser lol.I was sooo freaked out.I'd watch them all the time lol

reply

I seen this movie when it first came out. I started watching scary movies at age 4 thanks to my Aunt. To keep me quiet while babysitting me, she put on horror movies. It was the only thing that kept me quiet...lol. Anyways, I was about 6 when I seen it and loved it. I was so into horror movies by that time that it didn't really effect me. I'm sorry I got used to horror movies because now whenever I see one I don't get scared at all. I want to get scared again...lol. Anyways, it was a very good movie and I wish there were more killer dolls movies. I currently wrote a fan film story for Puppet Master Vs. Demonic Toys...two great kill puppet/toy movies. I am currently writing a Puppet Wars fan film, but also been thinking about alot of other ideas. I'm thinking about writing my own killer dolls story.

I totaly agree! This movie def changed the way I looked at my cute cudley dolls! I would either lock them in another room where they couldnt hurt me or in some cases I would try to reason with them. I would tell them.. "I promise I will play with all of you equally tomarrow as long as you dont kill me tonight!" Ha, that movie has been in the back of my mind for 17 years! I too was born in 1982, Another victom of the Dolls!!

I saw this a kid, and I collect dolls. I am surrounded by Cabbage Patch Kids (who can be menacing when they want to be), Barbie Dolls and the like. I'm 25... *beep* one of them just moved!

" I am surrounded by Cabbage Patch Kids (who can be menacing when they want to be)"

Lol, yeah, Cabbage Kid Dolls are quite creepy looking at times! How about those damn "My Buddy" and "Kid Sister" dolls? Those things terrified me as a kid thanks to the damn Childs Play movies! Even the damn theme song for the commercials was down right scary to me! My cousin used to have a My Buddy doll that he left outside in the rain for a day or two, so it got all dirty and stuff and I was terrified to go near it, thinking it would blame me for leaving it out in the rain. I refused to sleep at my aunts house for awhile cuz I thought the thing would come after me in my sleep!

reply

My Buddy, Kid Sister and Crickett were meant to terrorize children. No human could think those things were cute! I had a Chatty Cathy (she was my moms)when I was a kid, and I used to lock her in our cold storage in the basement. She was the Devil.

I agree completely. Even now, if I were to see a My Buddy or Kid Sister doll, I'd probly scream and run for the hills.

So its not just me!

The suspense is terrible... I hope it lasts

What about the rageddy ann? or however its spelled...creepy, really creepy

Well, at least it was an actual horror movie that gave you issues. For me, I literally had to sleep with my parents for a whole year after I saw LITTLE MONSTERS-which isn't even a horror movie!!! I was so creeped out by Howie Mandell's monster character that I had to sleep with the lights on from the time I saw that movie when I was 7 years old, till when I was about 10 years old! I was so traumatized that something would come out from under my bed-even if it was supposedly a nice, goofy monster-that still freaked me out! To this day, I will not watch Little Monsters...and the funny thing is that I am a horror movie lover. I am never scared by slasher flicks, creature features or ghost stories. Little Monsters, a children's film, was what gave me my issues. HOW PATHETIC!?!?! LOL.

Little Monsters... Holy cow, I'd completely forgotten about that movie! I used to love it, but in your defense, I could completely understand why you didn't like it and got scared by it. It freaked me out a bit the first few times I'd seen it too. But my sister liked watching it and I eventually was okay with watching it.

"and the funny thing is that I am a horror movie lover. I am never scared by slasher flicks, creature features or ghost stories. Little Monsters, a children's film, was what gave me my issues."

I know the feeling. I LOVE horror films and Dolls is the one movie I will NOT watch. It scares me to this day. I know it's a scary movie, so it's a bit different, but really, Dolls is a really low budget, cheesy movie. You can just see how fake it is... yet it terrifies me to watch that movie!

reply

Haha, wow I am surprised to see how many other people were(are) freaked out by their dolls! Dolls are just freaky. I just realized that I don't have one single doll in my room, and that probably explains the peace I've been living in the last 15 years!

Anyway, has anyone ever seen the show, "That's Incredible!"? It's from the 80's... But I just remember this one episode they did about these dolls coming to life in a Toys R Us store,...when all the employees had gone home and the security camera caught all the action. That really creeped me out too!

Almost all horror movie series eventually turn practically into a comedy. Look it Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy Kruger was so dark and creepy and sinister in the first one... and by the 5th one, or Freddy's Dead especially, it was all about comedy and silly one lines and ridiculous deaths. It wasn't scary anymore.

reply

[deleted]

It sucks because both Freddy and Chucky were creepy as could be in the first of their horror series... then by the time the latest ones came out, they've both turned into black comedians.

I know exactly what you mean! I had a Raggedy Ann doll for years and that thing creeped the CRAP out of me! I swear that thing was possessed! My brother said that one morning he woke up and she was sitting straight up on his stomach! I wanted to get rid of it but I couldn't think of a good enough excuse to throw it out (at least not one my mom would believe) so I had to keep it. We tried putting it in our closet (my brother and I shared a bedroom when I was little) but the next morning, if I remember right, that thing was sitting outside of the closet with its arms and legs crossed, just as natural as you please! We did everything we could think of to keep that thing from doing evil. We even baptized it!

And I don't know if this is true or not, but my brother claimed to have seen a program on TV where they were showing actual footage of really creepy home videos. The one video he told me about was of a birthday party. The mom was talking to one of the kids and then, all of a sudden, one of the other kids ran across the hall, from one bedroom to another, SCREAMING, and something came running after him! When they ran back there with the camera, they found a Raggedy Ann doll biting that kid! NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS ONE HAPPY PERSON WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT MY RAGGEDY ANN HAD GOTTEN A MOLD PROBLEM AND MY MOM TOOK HER OUT TO THE BURNING BARREL AND BURNED HER!!! AND I WAS 20 YEARS OLD AND ALREADY MOVED OUT OF THE HOUSE!!!

reply

You can find a supposedly true story on the internet about a big Raggedy Ann doll named "Annabelle." It is now in the possession of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Regardless of what a person thinks about the Warrens, their story of the doll Annabelle is really scary.

I just saw the movie Dolls this morning and it creeped me out. I never have liked dolls and it didn't take a movie to make me feel that way -- something about dolls' eyes just bugs me.

reply

Yeah, I've read the account of the doll owned by Ed and Lorraine Warren. I read it to my sister and it creeped the CRAP out of us! (Well, speaking for myself, anyway...I think she was, too.) Oh, and if you wanna read a really creepy account of a possessed doll, go on any search engine and type in the key words, "Robert haunted doll" and see the pictures that come up. That doll is SPOOKY!!!

This movie gave me GAS!!!!!

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

Remember the scene where the mother discovered that there was no batteries in the doll and yet the doll still speaks? That was so creepy how it came to life and start cursing and biting the mother after she threatened to throw the doll in the fireplace.

Huh sorry dnliu, but the scene you're talking about is from the first Child's Play. I read the whole thread... LOL !!! Are you people serious when you say that your doll was the devil, or that she was possessed? Anyways, I know the way we think as a child... I used to watch the Dolls' cover and taking it carefully by the sides and making sure not to touch the pitcure of the doll holding her eyes. But I never got the courage to rent it. I'll buy the DVD when it comes out in September...

Absolutely. I'm not kidding. I only wish I was!

LOL... Well, I'm a guy, so I never really had dolls, and so I could not be scared by my dolls... But it's cute. hahaha

Die t0night, I agree with you about the movie cover! It scared the crap out of me before I'd even seen the film...still does....LOL....

I had seen only the end of the film when I was a kid. I finally saw the entire film last night.
Some of the acting stunkeroo, but oh boy, those DOLL ANIMATIONS!!

*shudder* I really got the impression that they were alive. When the faces would go from regular doll faces to grins, my jaw dropped open. And I'm a huge fan of horror films, and not many scare me but this film's effects did!! Wow.

reply

I love this movie. I remember watching it when I was a kid and thinking "How cool". Ok the dolls killed people but # 1 they killed the grown-ups, and #2 those grown-ups were mean. They never attack the little girl and they stopped attacking the big guy, only cuz he was nice. They only killed the mean grown-ups. So this movie never scared me and I do wished my dolls had come to life.

reply

As a kid (I'm 31 now) I had a fear of the old dolls too. I remember once I went to a friend's house. His mom had the spookiest looking doll in her bedroom and you had to walk past that room to get to my friend's room. I'd always avert my eyes so I didn't see it. Then one day I was playing a handheld video game in his room and he walked in a dropped the damn thing in my lap. I freaked out big time!
A few years later this movie came out and I remember seeing commercials for it on Cinemax. I stated to my dad how that movie looked freaky as hell. Because of that comment he forbade me from seeing it. Then I switched my mindset and though facing the fear head on might be a good way of overcoming it. So I found out when it was going to be on during the middle of the night and I woke up and watched it with the volume down low so my parents wouldn't wake up. That movie did the trick. So my story is a bit different from others. It actually cured me of a standing fear I had prior to seeing it. Loved the movie though. Today it remains as an all time favorite movie of the 1980's. It works on so many levels. I think what I like most is the way it comes off as a dark fairy tale that plays off of a very common childhood fear.

reply

Yeah, Nekroman. The 80's rocked! I remember when I was watching it and the dolls kept on bashing that Madonna-wanna be girls face into the wall. Nasty! I also loved Poltergiest, Flowers in the Attic, Lost Boys, Near Dark and The Gate.

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

I can definitely relate. I always used to be extra nice to my dolls after watching this movie. I was always scared to hold them wrong or leave them anywhere out of fear that they would come back and pick at my face or eyeballs while I was asleep. For some reason, I always thought they would come out of the air conditioning vents and kill me. I'm 24 now. I still went out and bought this movie when it came out on DVD last week. When I watch it,I sit back and laugh now. I am glad to add this DVD to my collection. :)

I watched this movie while babysitting once when I was a young teenager, then I had to walk home, alone, in the dark!! I could have sworn I was being chased by dolls the entire way! One of the scariest movies I've ever seen, and I've seen alot. I didn't know it was out on DVD already - I have to go get it...

I'll have to buy this DVD too! I really like this film.
Are there any Extras on the DVD??
