Penny's abortion

I've always assumed that Penny was fairly early in her pregnancy, and the "butcher" Doctor didn't have to do much to initiate the miscarriage/abortion.
However, he didn't use any anesthesia, and had non-sterilized equipment. So, Penny was in pain from the procedure, and likely developed a dangerous infection.
We can't know if Dr. Houseman had to complete the D/C, but he certainly would have needs to examine Penny, and give her medicine to reduce her fever/fight infection.

No, the abortion was finished already I believe. The only issue is that the awful guy didn't have any anesthesia and non sterilized equipment like the other person said. Baby's dad only corrected his mistakes and did what he could.

It didn't seem he had to finish the abortion. I imagine he would have been far more disgusted when he left Penny's room than he was if he did have to finish that procedure. He seemed more disgusted with Johnny.

Which leads me to an observation - Dr. Houseman was shocked that Baby used his money to help Penny abort her pregnancy (understandable given the times), yet he welcomed Penny quite warmly at the end of the movie.
