Do you think Baby and Johnny could have ended up together?
i don't think they would have, i actually believe Penny and Johnny would have eventually..

(I wish I could find it online) Years ago, someone wrote a fascinating article hypothesizing about what might have happened after some famous movies ended. Some of the ones I remember:
The African Queen: Charlie left Rose. He didn't really want to be married and didn't consider the ceremony aboard the German ship to be valid. Rose married a minister, kept writing Charlie all her life, and was not surprised that he never wrote back.
Notting Hill: In spite of predictions that they'd split up, Anna and William stayed married and had twins.
An Officer and a Gentleman: Zack and Paula had their share of marital problems, even separated three times, but kept reconciling. They had a son named Sid who joined the Navy.
and Dirty Dancing?
Johnny and Baby were a summer romance and didn't keep in touch. He continued his dancing career and acted in the Broadway production of A Chorus Line. Baby went to see him three times but made no effort to go backstage.
I totally disagree about the African Queen. Rosie and Charlie clearly love each other, and i think they will stay together.
And i think Johnny and baby will keep dancing together.
Even as a kid it was always clear to me that Baby was probably going to end up a 60s War Protester after she got out of the Peace Corps. She was smart and stood up for what she believed in. It was clear to see that Johnny and Baby was a great summer romance that they both would remember forever but it ended after summer. Baby just had to much going for her and I bet in the end she ended up a Doctor like her father and her sister ended up a doctors wife. lol
shareOkay... I have to say that I'm perplexed by how everybody seems to assume that Baby and Johnny didn't stay together. I mean, why not?
Intelligence and purity.
Because she was to smart and ambitious, and Johnny probably would have ended up going to Vietnam. They were already saying goodbye to each other before he walked in and said nobody puts Baby in the corner. lol
shareIn the tv show, they eventually split: mostly chalked up to being a summer romance.
shareconsidering that summer flings didn't last long and they would have had no more than a few phone calls and letters before they went their separate ways, doubt it
shareI certainly agree it ended with them together, but I don't think they could have stayed together long term. They just never seemed to fit and he would have outgrown her. Even Patrick in his autobiography said Johnny was a better fit with Penny than with Baby. They had chemistry and attraction, but they were on a different level maturity wise.

Mount Holyoke College probably had all kinds of rules about “gentleman callers” back then, and Johnny would have stood out like a sore thumb on an all women’s, preppy Seven Sisters campus. They could probably still have made it work, if Johnny was ok skulking around dark corners and meeting up with Baby clandestinely. But then again, Johnny didn’t much like corners.
