Bronson had a bad time filming Death Wish 3 and a number of disagreements occurred.. they fell out and Winner no longer wanted to direct after hearing Bronson's comments.

Also, according to Winner's autobio, Cannon offered "TV movie budgets" which he felt were ridiculous.

In Death Wish 3, director Michael Winner pretty much turned Charles Bronson into urban Rambo when he’s running around with a 30 caliber machine gun, and mowing people down, and Bronson hated that. Also, Bronson was made to run around on set a lot, which he didn’t like to do (he said his doctor advised him not to run too much). And much of the filming was in London, which separated Bronson from his family in the US, which pissed him off and made him grumpy, bloated, and pale, as you can see when you watch the movie. He also previously disapproved of Michael Winner’s handling of the rape scenes in Death Wish 1 and 2. Needless to say, Bronson’s experience shooting this film was so horrible that he never worked with Michael Winner again. The next Death Wish was directed by J. Lee Thompson.
