DEAR AMERICA LETTERS HOME FROM VIETNAM SOUNDTRACK

26 May 2006, Friday, 8:56 a.m., Pacific Coast Time

Good morning!

I've searched the Internet for the sound track for "Dear America: Letters Home From Vietnam" over the last couple of years. If anyone has current information on the sound track, please advise. Now that the film is available on DVD, perhaps a soundtrack will soon follow. It is ironic that such a long period of time elapsed before "Dear America" was released on DVD compared to films that were relased on DVD within weeks or months after initial box office release.

I recall when HBO broadcast "Dear America" on television in 1987-1988. If anyone is aware of the availability of the individual TV broadcasts of Dear America that can be obtaiend, I'd appreciate receiving that information.

Check out the movie poster of "Dear America."

Kind regards,

One very poignant song that I heard on this movie when I saw it in high school - 15 years ago! - was a song called "Signed D.C." It was by a San Francisco band called Love. One of the principal band members, Arthur Lee, recently passed away.

OK, here's some of them.
Wipe Out
Boardwalk
Fortunate Son, Credence Clearwater Revival
Eighteen (Alice Cooper???)
Walk Like a Man
The Beat Goes On (Sonny and Cher?)
I Shall be Released
Gimme Shelter, the Stones
Couple of songs I didn't recognize, one sad one starts "Once I was a soldier"
Are You Experienced? Jimi Hendrix
For What It's Worth, Buffalo Springfield
Blue Christmas, Elvis
Livin' in the USA
What's Goin' On, Marvin Gaye
Give Peace a Chance, John Lennon
Doors ("No one here gets out alive" don't know name)
Born in the USA, Springsteen

Maybe others could plug in what's missing.

The title of the song by the Doors is "Five To One." A more complete track listing is on this thread:

Dear Phoenixashes13:

Here is the name of the song you inquired abou: "

ONCE I WAS"
Written by Larry Beckett and Tim Buckley

The lyrics are both moving and sanguine.

There is another song I dont see listed here. It's title is "Signed D.C." by Arthur Lee and Love. Kind of a depressing song about someone being strung out on heroin with nothing left to look forward to. Lyrics are "No one cares for me." I'm sure a lot of Nam vets felt like this.

Great documentary I use in class, great soundtrack that I would be willing to purchase but no info means a no go.
