The Dead + Brokeback Mtn

At the end of Brokeback Mountain I flashed instantly on the feeling I had at the end of The Dead. I know this may sound like an odd connection to make but here goes...

There is an older person leading a quiet life (Greta, Ennis). You might pass this person on the street and never think twice or you might think "What a sad lonely person, what an empty life." But buried deep inside that person there is a remembered love -- this quiet aging person was once the object of such passion and such deep love... nobody passing on the street ever knows what is buried deep inside this person... heavy sigh.

Yup - good comparison. Both films are similarly-themed, and very sensitively directed.

"It's as if God created the Devil...and gave him...JAWS"

Brokeback Mt in no way compares to this movie or the story by James Joyce.

Brokeback Mt was a piece of crap compared to the masterpiece The Dead (the movie and the story).

The first comparison that comes to mind is Terence Davies' "Distant Voices, Still Lives", another beautiful film.

"I did cramps the way Meryl Streep did accents" - Calliope (Middlesex)

"The Dead", "Brokeback Mountain", "Distant voices Still lives".

Three of my favourite films.

I guess they are linked in the contrast between people's calm, ordinary outward persona and their turbulent private inner livse.

LeeAnn Rimes. No it doesn't.
