Great suspense film

Why can't modern movies be good like this anymore? It just shows that all you need is a good script, cast, directing. Most current films rely on CGI, cliches, PC casting, ridiculous stunts, etc. This shows that Hollywood only cares about $$$ from a teenage audience (most teens would be bored to death of this flick-not enough gore, nudity/sex, explosions/action Oh, and no hip-hop music AND/OR black people ).

As good as it was, just think about what Hitchcock could have done with it!

I agree about your two points, movies nowadays and what Hitchcock could have added to this good thriller, which I enjoyed very much watching last night on http://thistv.com/ for its gripping trama, the artistic setting and the fine acting and directing (Arthur PennĀ“s directing surely makes a difference in the quality results of the film).

Dead Of Winter was a very well made, rip roaring blood and thunder (okay, blizzard bound) melodrama. Terrific acting, good script, fine atmosphere. It was modern in many respects and yet it "respected" the style of old classic films, which it didn't alter all that much aside from the use of color, more sexual stuff. The pacing was solid but not slow; and the film moved at a good clip, without rushing through things; no MTV style editing.
