But do you believe that a person's SISTER wouldn't recognize a phony? They could make up Mary Steenburgen to look like the sister, but what about the voice, the mannerisms? No sibling could be so stupid.

It's implied or said they hadn't seen each other for a long time, so it could be assumed they may not remember the small nuances. But yeah, you'd know if it's your sibling no matter how long it's been. And since the same actress played all the parts, it complicates things.
