Scene with mirror in dark room

I don't understand, when lights is off (Katie is in bed, they gave her sleeping pills or something like that), we see a character through the mirror. I thought he opened it (like door), but when I watched the movie one more time, I noticed he opened it later. So we really see him through mirror. How it could be possible.
