it is an amazing film, simply brilliant portrayal of steve biko by denzel washington, i dont know how he can get that south african accent and then sustain it, i also think this film made people around the world realise what a great man steve biko was.

A sad film, too.

The scene where the police are hunting down kids is appalling. 700 kids were killed! What the hell! Who is to blame for their lack of humanity?

During the beginning I didn't see much to blame South Africans. They came, yes they took land but perhaps the natives didn't know how to cultivate it and needed helping with development (but then the conversation between the police minister and Woods clarified how the Blacks didn't have much choice in the matter). Still I didn't hold hatred towards them probably because I'm White--but the final scene with the killing of kids, as I think about it, just makes me mad. This movie clarifies why gentlemen like Mandela and Biko are celebrated as they are. Those who shot and killed innocent schoolchildren are worse than barbarians.

probably because I'm White

No. It's because you're a racist.

I can see how the aforementioned phrase could be misinterpreted that way, Sweiland, but I feel your label is inaccurate.

It is harder for me as a White man to empathize with the Blacks who were victimized in this story because I haven't experienced what they have. In fact, I don't think many people born recently regardless of their skin's color can truly say that they relate being treated in the exact same fashion as the Blacks were in the movie Cry Freedom.
