Denzel at his best

He perfected African accent to the fullest & resurrected Biko the same way he did with Malcolm 5 years later. It's absolutely one of the best roles he ever did & it's a shame he lost Oscar for that one.He really disappreared in character.
The movie itself is sad & terrific. It blew my mind.Highly recommended.

I agree. Denzel Washington delivered the quiet intesity of Steve Biko with such ease. In doing so he magnified the issues of 1970's South Africa, instead of the iconic figure of the lead character. This is by far Washington's greatest role. And from a historic point of view, this film should be shown in every World History class from now until the end of time.

I saw it yesterday for the first time and I agree It's one of the finest work Denzel has ever done. He is PERFECT!

There's no characters on earth that Denzel can't do.

I wouldn't say go as far as saying that this was his best performance as an actor. He's done much better job on as real life event character rather then always having to portray someone who fights for freedom. But I Cry Freedom was probably the first movie he did in which white people learned to accept him more as a person rather then a good actor. White actors don't have to deal with these kind of racial roles to establish a name in the beginning of their careers. Denzel is definitely a mezmerizing diamond to look at in any given movie.

What do u think was better?
Him as Pvt Trip (Glory)?
as Malcolm X (Malcolm X)?
as HReuben Carter (Hurricane)?

I'm sorry but my hubbie is from South Africa, and I study South Africans and though his acting is great his accent is far from perfect in this one. I think he did a better job in Malcom X

I think Denzel was great in the film. He usually turns in solid, excellent performances anyway. His accent to non-Africans sounded very believeable,
I think you can allow occasional slips when you are presented with a fantastic acting performance. I think Kline was great too but Denzel really was great and this was the first of many great roles he embodied.

I've watched Washington's five Oscar-nominated performances now, and I'm tempted to believe that this was his best. Perhaps I'm still under the movie's spell because I've just finished watching, but what a performance!

I cannot believe he lost the Oscar! I'm beginning to think he only won for Glory to make up for this loss.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

Disagree. Good performance, glad he played him more as a man than an icon, but the accent was all over the place.

There was a way that Denzel addressed his oppressors while expressing such dignity and intelligence that was very powerful. If Biko was really like that you can tell why he was seen as a leader.
