Chuck a greedy a-hole according to the deluxe DVD set

The behind-the-scenes doc. about making the film showed that for every scene not related to the concert (visiting spots around St. Louis, his home, etc.) he demanded a fresh bag of 20-25,000 cash, or he wouldn't shoot the scene (his amazing excuse being that since the final movie was supposed to be ninety minutes, they were shooting more than that making it!), and constantly rewrote his contract. That plus the horrible experience he put the crew through when they were going to shoot in a prison and he abandoned them and the crew's women in a yard full of horny, violent prisoners makes you really not like the guy. great music, and I understand he had hard times in his life, but he just comes off as the most ruthless, ugly person you could ever come across.

I respect Berry for inventing Rock and Roll but it's a shame to find out that he was such a jerk and perv in real life. Always sad to find out that someone you really admire and look up to has a dark side. They also said that his voice was damaged from doing other live shows and his singing was so bad on the special that it had to be re-dubbed for the video.

I read that and several other articles about him too, even found the old Spy magazine article from 1993 that detailed his sexual "activities", very sick stuff. I felt bad for Keith Richards, he idolized Berry but Berry treated him pretty badly numerous times when they played together. Finding out that your hero is really a jerk is always heartbreaking. There's an interview with Brian Johnson of AC/DC on Youtube saying he asked Berry for an autograph in 1975 and he said he was the biggest jerk he had ever met.
