Sentimental, doomed, romantic love story

For good reasons, CAPTIVE HEARTS is an appealing romance love story that, while does not have a tragic ending, nor does it have a true happy ending. The typical lovers must separate due to unbreakable circumstances but at least both live. Yet they don't know if they will ever meet again. Before you guys dismiss this as a chick flick, I found this movie very watchable because of its wartime and somewhat adventure backgrounds. It's not a sappy soap opera love story.

The love of the handsome young white man and the beautiful Asian maiden is not a new love story. It happens all the time in real life today. Few people have tried to explain the erotic, romantic, and sexual karma between white men and Asian women. But it's clearly there and it exists. It's not a surprise and shouldn't be. White men loved North American Indian women and these women loved the white man, despite almost three centuries of conflict on the North American continent. It's not surprising there would be similar attraction and subsequent relationships between white men and Asian women as the twentieth century reached its last decades and into the twenty-first century. So unless you have a heart of stone, you can't help but be moved by this intercultural, interracial love story that was fated not to last physically, but endure only in their hearts.
