He mows lawns, but...

Notice his own yard doesn't have any grass. Something I recently noticed when watching this on Netflix.

I'm a bartender and I don't drink! Seriously though this is filmed in Tucson , Arizona. I live in Phoenix. I'm surprised that he was able to make so much money mowing lawns, most homes in Arizona have what is known as "desert landscaping"......I.e. rocks and cacti.

But why would a house that doesn't have grass even own a lawnmower? Did he spend $1000+ on a lawnmower in order to make a $1000 by mowing lawns?

I did not even think of that. That is a good question. An expensive riding mower at that. This film may be ruined for me now....

"p.s. aglet" 😂 Someone finally answered. I've noticed many other "only in an 80's movie "quirks that now bug me in this film. Example: I have a hard time believing that a single mom in Tucson would actually own a $1000 outfit and I can't imagine any teenager wanting to wear it to a pool party.

I always figured the mom was divorced and got a hefty settlement and/or alimony. Wearing suede in Arizona in August or September? No way.

It was a short suede skirt with a bikini top. I can't believe the mom would actually wear that in public. Even in the eighties.

There is a saying "The shoemakers children always go shoeless."
