Cozy sweaters and NY accents...

1) so many cute and cozy sweaters in this movie. Cindy had a cute big yellow one, and then in the scene where "Barbara" asks Ronald out, the girl "Pats" had a really nice looking grey sweater. where can one find cozy sweaters like that, anybody know any good stores?

2) am I the only one who thought the two main characters had slight NY or NJ accents? Yet this did not take place in that region, it was filmed in Arizona... was that intentional, did I miss something in the film where they explained how the two families moved from NJ? For Cindy it kinda went in and out... was I imagining that?

1) I don't know. Maybe search ebay for "vintage sweater"

2) Yeah I noticed it too. Patrick Dempsey is from Maine so maybe that's some northeast accent coming through. Amanda Peterson is from Colorado so I'm not sure where she gets that little NJ thing occasionally.

Didn't lots of people from all over the States move to places in the Southwest like Arizona, especially during the 60s-80s period?

He was my C.O. in Nam. CIA listed him as MIA but the V.A. ID'd his M.O. and put out an APB.

I didn't hear anything like a New York accent from anyone. Standard-issue mid-American. I suspect that's about regionally accurate in Arizona. Seth Green has kind of a distinctive manner of speaking, but I think we can ascribe that to the quirkiness of the character.

I have no problem with the cozy sweaters because there weren't a ton of them. And there was no snow during the winter scenes.

As for the accents... YEAH... I noticed this in Ronnie, Cindy, Chucky, and in the Mom's date (the 'Hunk'). Mostly Ronnie. At the end of the movie (the bat scene) Ron mentions that they all used to go to elementary school together (carried Quinton 12 blocks to the hospital) implying that they have lived there (Tucson) for a long time.

They were suppose to be from Boston, not NY. Those were Boston accents.

Quint had a slight southern accent.

Oh good, I thought I was hearing things. :D I totally heard a NY accent when Cindy is talking to Ronald on the first day of school. When they're outlining the details of their deal, she says, "I get my lunch hour awff (off)."

I thought you came up here to have a nervous breakdown. ..I decided not to have one.

Not at all !!! I'm from NYC/ NJ area and didn't hear anything close to it. If anything, I heard a lot of West Coast and Southern accents in the movie. Patty, Barbara, and Ricky had California accents. Quint and Big John talked like Southern guys. Cindy definitely didn't have an East Coast accent, either. Kinda funny bc when I used to watch this movie as a kid, I always thought of this as a "West Coast 80's movie"...and it used to make me think how weird it would be for a teenager to live in a desert area, like they did. But, now as an adult who recently visited Tucson and Phoenix, for the first time...I think it would be cool.
