Underappreciated 80s gem

This movie definitely had some cheese, but all in all I found it to be a very sweet and well acted movie that is fun to watch even if you've seen it before.

What I really liked about this movie in retrospect is the soundtrack, I'm an 80s music guy to begin with, and I really liked some of the songs in the movie like "Looking Up" and "Some become Strangers". Alas, the songs are so obscure that I can't find them anywhere on the net, grrrrr.

"Some Become Strangers" by the Williams Brothers is available on their 1987 CD, "Two Stories." It's out of print but can be found in used record stores, depending on where you live. I have it.

I have two more underappreciated flicks that I need to find the titles for and Im gonna start here because you seem like you might know. I know one is definitely an eighties flick. The other one might have been made in the eighties but isnt an "eighties flick". Ready? This is all the info I can remembner.

First movie: Two friends. Ones an aspiring rock star with blond hair, most likely a mullet. His friend is a black guy who for some wacky reason has to dress in drag for the whole movie, even when it gets in the way of his relationship with his girlfriend. The movie centered on the music industry or at least a cartoony eighties depiction of the music industry. I think the black guy in drag was a hit performer even though he wasnt himself. And the blond guy, of course, was the real deal and the movie's climax is when he gets to perform his music onstage.

Second movie: This teenager lives on a farm with an abusive uncle/father/grandfather. The latter even kills the kid's dog, he's that mean. The kid discovers some sort of high-tech alien weapon, like a laser gun, and starts to use it. He kills the old man. And eventually gains the attention of the government. He is a fugitive with this girl and at some point she paints his face with a space/stars/moon design. And I believe he ends up being killed by the Man.

Any luck?

Dont shoot your shotguns at the UFO. They might be here to pick me up.

Great flick! Lots of fun... love the Arizona vibe this film gives off as well.

Not to mention all the eye candy! The blond guy Steve Lyon is beautiful!

I have not seen Campus Man in over 20 years on vhs.
And have found the dvd on Ebay. An entertaining
and harmless storyline with Morgan Fairchild in a
supporting role. So sad that John Dye died so
young and this movie is very underrated!
