Karl was Gay?

I just read in the Trivia section that Karl Heffler, (Bobcat Goldthwait) was changed from the books, where the character is Carolyn Kaiser, Bernie's lesbian best friend. It also says that Bobcat's chr was supposedly gay.

Now, this used to be my favorite movie after it came out... I;ve seen it dozens of times, it was the first VHS tape I ever purchased... Where in the movie does it say or imply that Karl is gay?

It would make sense for him to be, since Carolyn is lesbian... I just cannot recall seeing anything of the sort.

You've missed the point.

It makes sense from the books to have had Karl be gay, since Carolyn was.
I was asking, Does the movie ever SAY or HINT that Karl is gay? And if so, WHERE?

Who exactly was Karl "pretending" to? He was out with his closest friend, who being a female would have no problem with him being gay so there is no need to fake it for her, and he was drunk and we all know that when we are drunk our truer selves are more likely to surface then not. Karl was not supposed to be gay...if he was, this movie coming out in the '80s when stereotyping gays wasn't as taboo as it is now, they would have made him like Hollywood from Mannequin.

Yeah, it says on nndb.com that Carl was "the gay dog groomer", but in the movie it did show him hitting on women at the club.

Maybe the nndb made a mistake...they sometimes do.

Wasn't the man in the book gay? If so they changed a gay man to a straight woman, so they could have changed a lesbian woman to a straight man.

After reviewing the film a few more times, I can't find any indication that Karl is supposed to be gay. Evidence is rather toward the opposite.

I have therefore submitted a correction to imdb.

They also misspell Karl's name in the Trivia blurb.

It's "Hefler", not "Heller".
