So the appliances can't reveal that they're alive in front of humans...

... unless they pretend to be a ghost? I never really understood that part. There's obviously some sort of rule that they can't "come to life" when a person is around and must pretend to be inanimate. Yet, in the scene where they pretend to be a ghost and scare the owner of the parts store (which is awesome by the way, I love that part), this is somehow okay? I guess it's fine as long as he thinks it's really a ghost and can't under any circumstances know the truth about them actually being living appliances.

Anyone have any ideas as to how this works?
