Worst child actor EVER!!?

Young Frank Dux, who looks like he has down syndrome and has a horrible lisp has to be the worst actor period! I really don't know why anyone would have cast this kid. No surprise he never acted again.

"What kind of a deal"

These are the only two pieces of dialogue in the history of cinema that are spoken whilst an actor had chronic constipation.

"Your not gonna call the cops?"

Naw, the soldier at the beginning also had a touch, I'm sure.

Frank will never be shingos punching bag

Shaw Brothers Rules. Kung fu is stronger than japanese Martial arts.

reply

OK GUYS this fact bothered me for a while too, i was wondering how a kid like that could be cast wondered for weeks and months

THEN I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT !!!

they were trying to account for Van Damme's (as an Adult) accent and somewhat motionless way of speaking, so to be accurate they tried to make the kid speak in a similar style so that it would be consistent with the adult grown up character.

The only problem is, the kid over-played that role and so he sounded like he was retarded or something, and i'm surprised they didn't try to get him to downplay it a little to make it more normal, but anywayz, like i said above, i think the intention was the one i described.

i know, right?

Holy cow. I've gone these last 20 years having no idea what he said there, and at long last the mystery has been solved... "punching bag".

Spershen bad!

reply

For years my friends and i would laugh at the actor playing young Frank Dux. It's like his voice has been dubbed over with some Belgian or French guy's voice on Xanax.Horrible acting but hilarious.

reply

I always thought it was dubbed!

"You are not Japanese, you are not a Tanaka!"

I haven't watched this movie in a couple of years but I can still hear the 'what kind of a deal?' dialouge in my head clearly.

it's making me giggle.

The one characteristic of young Frank Dux that had an impact on me (besides his lack of talent) was what he was wearing. I'm not sure if anyone else even noticed this, or furthermore if I am the only on who thinks it is funny, but here goes. In the scene where he breaks into the house to steal the sword he is wearing a Giants hat and shirt. The only problem is he is wearing a San Francisco Giants hat (baseball) and a New York Giants shirt (football). It is as if the wardrobe director just chose the most generic, "American" sports gear he/she could find, regardless of whether or not it made sense.

reply

i could never figure out why he was wearing that giants shirt anyway, then i read you post and here is my thought, i am sure it is way too deep and probably not what the movie had in mind at all, but here goes anyway...

young FD was trying to fit in really bad, he was from another country so he picks out these American sports team clothes because he wants to look American etc, poor kid doesn't realize that they are not the same teams, or even same sports...

lol, but i am thinking that is way to deep for it

Yeah, I came here to comment on that. Everything about that kid was weird and funny.

Death to shakeycam directors!

LOL, it is not just him, the other kids talk the same way too. However, it put Van Damme in a better light, since his acting is excellent compared to those kids.

reply

Funny, but when I watched it the other night I couldn't believe this kid got the part.He must have been a good friend of one of the actors. I think he did do some other acting. I'm not entirely sure though. Check his profile to be sure.

Awesome.

reply

If you expect me to be his punching bag, you can forget it.

reply

Yu naught goin do gaul da gaps?

reply

These worst-than-ever-acting cases improve when the movie gets dubbed for foreign distribution, especially the European ones. I remember seeing the movie when it came out in theatres here in Italy and the kid's voice actor was pretty much good.

reply

I thought his voice sounded dubbed anyways. Same with Hussein.

"Let go of your own throat, Hank."

reply

Great comments!!!! I think that the first soldier that call Dux on the shower probably it's the brother of Dux... it's very similar to the kid on his face and also his lines are performed equally...

AHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

reply

I assumed they filmed that part of the film in Canada...and they got some french canadian kid to do it to approximate JCVD's belgian accent..

but this is the FUNNIEST thread on imdb....

sf giants hat...NY giants shirt...lends credence to my theory that this was shot in Canada... baseball and american football are secondary sports over there...so the wardrobe person made an honest mistake.

reply

It's the best flim ever, i agree with you that kid is *beep* *beep* his name is pierre something.

reply

I'll have to disagree with you there Mr. Nezzler, Pierre Rafini deserves some form of award for his great efforts on this movie... Even if he hasn't worked since the late Eighties.

reply

I'll have say Mr. Rockitretro you clearly must have a crush on Pierre Rafini even though he has a wierd accent lol. Come Jeff mate you must be pulling my leg, he's the worst actor. I would rather watch that Michael Jackson lookalike bounch up and down and that lads cock on No retreat, No Surennder than watch that little *beep* Pierre.

reply

I'm sorry to hear that you missed Pierre's hard-hitting performance in Bloodsport Mr. Nezzler... HE DID NOT FLINCH - HE HAD FIGHTING SPIRIT!!

lol

Is he even still living? Or has he faded into obscurity as much as the already mentioned RJ from the underrated classic No Retreat, No Surrender?

reply

Oh carp! i forgot i posted this. i love all the comments haha

reply

I like how the kid version is just as tall as grown up Van Damme, with black hair, but at least he has fighting spirit.

reply

How about when his parents are talking to Mr. Tanaka and little Van Dammes eyes are wide open and hes moving his head like he's watching a ping pong match

reply

ha ha ha that goofy kid cracks me up!

You motherfu@ker,I'm gonna kill you! I'm gonna fu@kin'cook you,and I'm gonna fu@king eat you!

reply

LOL!

Yeah just remembered about that scene

reply

Hehe

Yes, but what do you mean martial zienze?

reply

Without this kid, the movie wouldn't be as much of a classic. Forget about winning the Kumite, the more impressive accomplishment in the life of Frank Dux is how he kicked Down Syndrome.

reply

does this kid remind you of younger verison of eli manning?

reply

A younger version of Michael Phelps is more like it. And I love his Giants/Giants hat shirt combo...except that the teams are from different cities. Classic wardrobe.

reply

Whoever was in charge of the wardrobe probably thought the hat and shirt were from the same team. Some Chinese person maybe.

reply

His clothes did represent the Giants team, but the hat was a SF Giants & the shirt was a NY Giants. Haha.
