NORMAN BATES- THE NEXT REALITY TV STAR?

'The Hollywood Reporter' revealed recently that production company Vertigo Entertainment (The Ring, The Grudge) has inked a deal with Lionsgate to produce TV shows for network and cable audiences.

Along with some other prospects like a "high-stakes gambling drama", the most interesting show they have in the works is "THE BATES MOTEL," which indeed will be a re-imagining of Hitchcock's classic "PSYCHO."

There's no other info available at time, but that won't stop us from guessing at what happens. Perhaps this will be another "PSYCHO IV: The Beginning(1990)", a prequel of sorts that brings us up to date on Norman's psychosis. One thing it won't be is similar to the "BATES MOTEL" TV movie that premiered in 1987. That film was about a fellow inmate and friend of Norman's who inherited the motel after Bates died in the asylum... and of course brought it back open for business.

In any case, it's way too early to tell what's going to happen with this, but we'll bring you more as we hear it. Let's just hope it hits cable.

'Fangoria' magazine reports that according to 'The Hollywood Reporter,' Asian remake specialist 'Vertigo Entertainment' has signed a deal with 'Lionsgate' to create TV product for broadcast and cable airings. Its first scripted project will be another update: "BATES MOTEL," a "reimagining" of Alfred Hitchcock's classic "PSYCHO" that 'Vertigo' is developing with 'Universal.' No talent has been announced yet for the show, which is presumably unrelated to the "BATES MOTEL" TV movie aired by NBC in 1987, starring Bud Cort as an asylum acquaintance of Norman Bates who inherits the titular establishment. 'Vertigo' and 'Lionsgate' previously teamed on the redux of "THE EYE" that the latter releases October 12.

RELAX 'hingleyc,'

From what I got out of those articles, it says (or states) that they are thinking of doing (yet) another remake, or reimagining of "Alfred Hitchock/Robert Bloch's PSYCHO," not necessarily a recycling of "Richard Rothstein's "BATES MOTEL" (TV movie).
Who knows, perhaps, this upcoming TV movie might do a better than 'Gus Van Sant's "PSYCHO"(1998) which was nothing more than a remake, recycling shot by shot of the original Hitchock Classic.

What do you think now?

Ack, I know this thread is old, but... there's so much judgement in this thread and the show hasn't even premiered yet. Give it a chance, people. Maybe it'll actually be good. The commercials make it look good. We shall see...

It's all good... perhaps you were reading several boards close together and got confused? Kinda like text messaging two people at once and sending the wrong message to one. Either way, glad to hear it was a mistake. Have a good day in IMDb land! Cheers to you.

I just wish they would rename the "Bates Motel" or bulldoze it down so we don't have to hear about it anymore. My gawd, let it die in peace and leave Hitchcock's stuff alone.
