Barfly Trivia You Didn't Know

I watched part of Barfly being filmed while I was working in an alcohol recovery center in downtown L.A. The center was housed in the old Royal Palms Hotel which was used in a couple of exterior shots. When the director needed some additonal winos for a sidewalk scene he hired some older guys from the program who looked the part. That's what I call authentic casting!

The cornfield scene was shot in the Royal Palms dirt parking lot. They planted only a small patch of corn. It was hard to see how it would fit into a movie.
