I love the movie's seedy locations

Me too. In addition to all the reasons to love this film, there is something pleasing to the eye when you see those old, forgotten places.

The one and only time I've been to L.A., July '04, we stayed at a cheap hotel in Koreatown and there was a bar down the street that looked like it could have been in Barfly. It was called El Charro or something I think. I wanted to go in and check it out but my wife & kids protested. Got a nice photo of the outside tho.
