this film is a freaking classic...i want it now!!

Yeah! It's never on TV, can't get it through netflix (at least for the
last few months I've been trying) - always says 'availability unknown'.
what's the deal with that? Amazon?

I think I am going to have to agree on this, what a perfect movie barfly is for the criterion collection and it just makes no sense why they didn't pick this one up unless the rights are hard to get.

reply

Agreed...
why was dvd discontinued anyway. I can't get for less than $100. It was be awesome addition to criterion... How do we go about this.

I own it on VHS. Unfortunately I haven't owned a VHS player for a few years. I watched it again finally tonight via Amazon instant rentals, and put in a request by Turner Classic.

It's a great movie and probably the best work by Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway. So underappreciated. It needs to be released again on DVD!

I also have it on VHS. I bought it years ago and recall paying close to full retail at the time, simply because it had to be special ordered.

You can get a copy of the DVD for $30 to $40 on eBay this week. I got mine some months ago from a Greek seller. It had Greek subtitles and cost just under $30 if I remember right. But you can turn off the subtitles.

I can't imagine why it's so hard to find...!!! All I know is that when they made the DVD they didn't make enough copies, by a long shot!

found a DVD at Halfpriced books it was $54.

I really want to see this movie, I tried to rent it through Amazon for like 2.99 however the streaming vid was choppy as hell, and they don't let you download after you start watching, so I am going to have to buy it again and dlownload, I think they let you buy it for like 10 bucks to keep on your PS, from there you should be able to burn it to DVD.

last month they released a Region 0 DVD, however its 1.33:1. plus it won't work for Standard US DVD players.

reply

sounds like the books were 1/2 priced, not the dvds.
